Old jackshaft 350 shunt engine being dragged to Crewe from Springs Branch for scrapping, looking towards Spring View from Platt Bridge.1965. Is that the pond you rememmber Aitch in the background ?

It most certainly is, it doesn't look like that now, In the bad winter in the 60s, I cant remember exactly which one it was now, but we stopped at that signal due to the bad weather, we relieved the same train in the same spot for nearly a week, which makes me wonder what ever happened to that sort of weather, although we didn't shut down like they do now a days, if there was leaves or snow on the line it was blasted off with the exhaust steam pipes.

None of Wigan's old jackshaft shunters were scrapped at Crewe. They went to either Yorkshir or the West Midlands, except one which was scrapped at Bolton shed.
