On the back of the first picture it says; 92115 17.7.65.So,we've got the engine number and date of the pic,The engine is approaching Rose Bridge junc on the Whelly Loop line at Higher Ince the water tower, slag tip on Hemfield Rd and school on Belle Green lane can be seen. Just out of site is the Springs branch line that went underneath the Loop Line
another brilliant photo winder, you will have me in tears if you keep putting these on here, now if only someone can come up with some of springs branch and the surrounding areas and sidings, then that would really make my day.
Aitch,I remember being taken into the canteen at Springs Branch in the early fifties by my Aunt who worked there.
Thanks Aitch.I've got a book with loads around the Branch you can borrow it if you like.
Winder I would love to borrow the Book if at all possible I will put my E mail address on a thread on wiganworld then you can get in touch with me if you want
Very poignant Winder - only three years on, 1968, and the end of steam. This loco's dragging its diminutive successors.
wonderfull pics all these steam loco,s...can almost smell the smoke,,,,cars look like ford cortina,s and anglia,s,,wouldnt mind betting that these came out of Hailwood,,,,
Info on this loco at http://www.railuk.info/steam/getsteam.php?id=23072
It takes me back to sitting on the wall at Rylands lobby with my Ian Allen trainspotting book.
you can just make out Belle Green school, and the all important slag tips, which we used as playgrounds in the 40s and 50s
Great to see RBJ. My dad Jack was born in Francis st. off in the left of pic
My dad Norman Taylor was a driver out of Springs Branch in the late 1940s/50s and died when I was 5, 1953 Anybody know of him?
