There had been a mill known as The Weaving Shed on the site from 1907 which had failed twice in 4 years .It took the name Makerfield Mill in 1919 and it was through the efforts of Managing Director Wilfrid Maher soon assisted by Mr Ralph Platt that stability was finally achieved . Post war the mill had a period of unbroken expansion with turnover nearly doubling in 10 years .

I worked at makerfield mill at this time the directors were Joseph Maher and his brother Austin Maher..brings back memories
