I remember Springs Branch so well. Fantastic photo.
Such powerful giants. This country, the originator of railways, and the age of steam, to the world, Why is it, now, that we seem to be lagging behind other Nations, in relation to railways.
Ayrshire Yeomanry
LMS Black 5.
Designer William Stanier 1935, withdrawn in Aug 1968 (the end of steam for BR) scrapped in Dec that year and carried the name Ayrshire Yeomanry.
Great pic
TV and other sources don't seem to have much space for 'black trains with glittering gold letters'. Perhaps I'm wrong, though. Just a thought.
I don't follow philips comment????????
Great photo of our railway past.
No problem Arthur. It's just that I can't recall having seen black trains with the said lettering on TV docs and in books - all I've seen are the 'named varieties' in red, green and blue livery. But then, I don't chase-up the hidden, with the vim of buff; I've seen the old boy from The Titfield Thunderbolt, though - in the Liverpool museum, about three years ago. Thanks.
Phil: You've obviously never lived, old boy...
