The Arcade Building is and was a handsome pile in the domestic Gothic style of architecture, built for Richard Leigh, solicitor, and contained an arcade of shops, the Manchester & County Bank, and several sets of fine offices. Now sadly neglected!
Just for interest, according to the historical inflation calculator 20 Guineas and 120 Guineas equates today to just over £2,600 and nearly £16,000.
Such a long period of time in existence, and like many other well known Wigan companies that seemed to disappear within a short distance of time. A well known Wigan Borough Police sergeant, Bert Hitchen, his wife, Faye, was a sales assistant, in this establishment.
