Is this the shop they had in the Ince Bar area, opposite the Horseshoe pub?
A more recent pic of the Ince Bar shop can be found on Item #: 765, for comparison.
Possibly Manchester Road, Higher Ince?
I notice the shop partially visible on the right has an advert for Edison Bell phonographs in the window, does anybody know who's the shop was?
Could it have been a Bicycle shop I understand they often sold phonographs and gramophones as a sideline.
Wherever it is, it's on a long road - the shop next door is numbered 276. Ben Turners shops on Manchester Road were at numbers 47 and 154 in the 1925/6 Ince Directory - and Manchester Road only goes up to 274....
That pig’s head above the lady looks a bit like Charles Laughton.
39 Turner Ben Ltd., butchers Ashton Street (Manchester Rd )
the one i looked up was next to the The red lion Inn
AW, I've just had a mooch and discovered that the Austin 7 had Bowden brakes - the Bowden sign to the right of Bell's.
Sorry, Winnie, you're right - the butcher's at 47 Manchester Road was N Turner.
There is a modern photo of a Ben Turner shop that may well be this one on the Album, the old wooden feature at the side of the name board look very similar, though it is covered partly with flashing, and the height of the window of the Rothwell shop also matches, it says Jimmy Briers took over the shop if that rings a bell to anyone. http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=3&id=765&gallery=Shops+in+and+around+Wigan&offset=0
