This is a surprise, Philip: I hadn't known of a collectors card bearing the name of Wigan … and I've been collecting cards since the late 1950s. Your card seems to be in very good condition and is priced at £5 in my 2016 LCCC catalogue, however, no price is given for the complete set, which could indicate that all cards in the set were then not yet accounted for.
I phoned Mike Heard, in Derbyshire, about an hour ago when he told me that he has 'a few' of these cards in stock, and that you could contact him at sportingutopia@aol.com (include your wants list). I'd also phoned Alex Wallace, in Prescot, who told me that although he's now into Postcards, he would get back to me on the arrival of any good news reaching him. You might also like to order a back issue of The Card Scene (no need for your wants list here), in which you'll find details of other dealers. Good Luck!
I have delved into my memory regarding Bond Minicars. I think
that they were made in Preston, had a 197cc Villiers 2 stroke
engine, and the early ones were started by lifting the bonnet and Kickstarting the engine. The engine, gearbox,
and front wheel were all one unit, and could turn 90deg
to the left and the right, and turn around in its length.
These Bond mini car were powered by Villiers two stroke twin engines. I need a sherry.
You're correct our next door neighbour had one 50s-60s he used to lift bonnet and kick start it .he parked it anyway cos it would turn "on a tanner" what a car!!
Could you drive these unaccompanied on a provisional motor bike licence?
I believe these cards are as rare as Hens' teeth...
Yes Jack, a motor bike licence did cover these cars, because they didn't have a reverse gear.
Thanks Garry.
hi. Philip I have a number of spare cards so if you let me know your requirements hoping I can help JOHN
I have quite a few of these cards, would they be worth anything? If so who should I contact?
The date of issue is debatable the company announced in February 1954 that a full set of 56 cards would be 'sent post free for namebrands from three 3lb bags or nine 1lb' of their flour while stocks lasted. Hope this helps.
I appreciate I'm 2 years late to the original question... but I have quite a few spares. I am currently looking for card numbers 9 and 12... just in case anyone is swapping or selling :0)
I’ve got some.
