The Springs Branch crew of class 40 No 40034 return to their loco after stopping to extinguish a lineside fire caused by steam loco City of Wells while climbing Lindal bank near Ulverston. The class 40 was hauling Springs Branch breakdown train back to the depot after attending a derailment at Foxfield, July 1983.

remember the derailment at foxfield well if I am correct that's when we were sat outside of the pub having a pint, the land lady
said because it was only 9 o'clock in the morning she could not serve us in the pub but could pass them through the window.

Steam trains running in 1983? The last steam train on BR tracks was 1968.

Alan, steam trains are still running on BR tracks to this day. They are heritage specials and regularly run through Wigan North West station.

Alan H is correct, but not on BR rails, it's now Network rail.
