There were literally tons of good coal mixed in with this waste. We used to put lumps of it in the passenger footwell of the cab until the ' powers that be ' stepped in and prevented us from taking it. The stuff used to burn to a fine white dust. Of course it's always more practical to send useable material to landfill rather than allow someone to extract any benefit from it. This mindset is amply demonstrated on a daily basis by the supermarket chains.
