I don't think the Atki's going fast, the photos just blared. You had a job on your hands to get these doing 40MPH on the motorway..Gardner engines were very slow at building up speed, and this is loaded.

I tried telling that to the copper that nicked me for doing 55 in one down the East Lancs Road one time Garry, but he wasn't having any of it. I could have done with having you as an expert witness.

I think you'll find Derrick said Borrow pit Garry, not Cheshire Oaks retail outlet.

Was there not a concrete pad that came across the fields and came out just lower than the Quarry heading away from the M6 towards Lowton.

You're right broady, there was, but it was after my time. I think that only went in around '83 or thereabouts. It may still be there for all I know. I shudder to think how many loads they expected out of the drivers after they laid that thing. They were expecting 13 or 14 each per day out of us when we had to go the long way round, via the Bull's Head. Winwick hospital and The Hermit. Do you remember that old speeded up film, 'The Hell Drivers' ? Well it was a little bit like that.

I seem to remember Sid James was in that film in a " straight role "

I remember the teacher at school saying, "if you don't listen and learn you'll end up leaving school with no qualifications and end up being at wagon driver.lol
I ended up driving for a long time delivering milk in the 50s & 60s lol.
