Nice shot Mick. Can't help thinking the photo title would make an attractive brand name for a fragrance....... Just imagine.....' Sunrise over Bickershaw colliery '....., by Jean Paul Gaultier, or David Beckham, or Jennifer Lopez, Kate Moss, Christina Aguiluaras, or some other useless poser. It would probably sell well in Wigan. Nice shot nonetheless.
I just love the colours in this photo.
I knew his would appeal to you, Maureen. Ozymandias, I would be proud to wear "At The Coalface" perfume! (PS, my Ince school-playtime-milk-bottle has been much admired!)
I've got another one for you actually Irene. I unearthed Oliver Cromwell's inkwell recently during a dig at a top secret location in the Wigan area. I'll put a photo of it on here soon, after which, you can have the item to add to your collection. I'm sure you'll find it interesting. Regards. Ozy.
Irene...the same colours are in today's Photo a Day...lovely.
On descending, on a winter's day, when on the day shift, your vision of the sun, on those days, was quite limited.
Mick, more like middle of the afternoon.
The pic is looking in a Southerly direction.
Winder, the general direction is looking south but the light is still, albeit only just, on the eastern side of the train. The sun did not get onto the western side until the afternoon as can be seen on several other images of mine on Wigan World. The sun is, as I'm sure you know, always further south in the sky in winter.
Cheers Mick.
Did you ever come over to the "pit side"?
Wonderful photo Mick
Not sure what you mean by "pit side" Winder. I did venture beyond the loading plant sometimes to get shots within the pit buildings but certainly not down any holes in the ground!! Not for me I'm afraid but every credit to those who did.
mick what was you doing at Bickershaw so early must have been on nights
I was not working nights at that time Derek, except when called out. Not as early as you may think though, it was January after all.
