Is that the pit that was known as Jemmy Lavin's deyeye?
I assume that it was tuddy, since it was a ' dey hey ' and it was owned by Jimmy Lavin initially, then latterly by several of his brothers. Lawrence Lavin being the most predominant and one of the longest lived of the family. Although Reg Lavin, one of the nicest members of the family in my opinion, and the last of the brothers, is still with us. ( 22.11.15. )
Thanks for that Eddie, I can remember being down Golborne Colliery in the 1970s and working in a district that was in a bad condition, one bloke uesed to describe it as "being worse than Jemmy Lavin's dey hey.
Neh, I'm not havin' that Tuddy. Nowhere daewn Gowburn were as bad as that!!!
It was one of Tommy Bond's sayings Chris, when we worked in L 12 main road. It favers Jemmy Lavin's dey eye"! Chris, have you seen that photo of Dairy Pit, it's about four pages down.
I didn't think thy were owd enough to have worked in L12 Main Rd, Tuddy. It were a mess. Aye I've seen the Dairy Pit photo. I was going to comment on it at the time but got distracted.
I'm just about old enough, L12 haulage was my first job at Golborne when I was sixteen. Dose anybody know how long Lavin's was worked for?
When I started in 72, L10 had just finished and they were driving the face heading for L12. Sorry Tuddy, I don't know much about Lavins apart from roughly where it was.
I drove for lavins for two years started in 1961 my father worked there most of his life first on the tipper trucks then the loading shovel not sure when it closed maybe late sixties early seventys.
Which one of the Lavins did you drive for Dave? Would it have been Lol? I worked for Reg from 64 till 66.
Eddie i worked on the tipper lorrys not the coalbagin the brothers as you will know had there own bagin rounds so think the tipper lorrys would be shared .
My grandfather - Thomas Webster - worked for the Lavins at Arch Lane for 15 years, not sure of the years. He worked for Garswood Coal & Iron Co for 45 years. I do remember being at Our Lady's school with Maureen Lavin in 1955 & sending her a Valentine card in 1955.
