This is the same bus that Tom Sutch had uploaded on the 13th October. The bus built by Northern Counties in Pemberton at work after being commissioned by Chester City Transport in 1982. The bus on it's way to the Rake and Pike inn on Chester road, Huntington, takes on passengers at an earlier stop. I hope the bus served Chester well.

Sorry my mistake: it should have read Rake and Pikel Inn.

Comment by: John on 15th October 2015 at 22:45

yes. Pikel is the Lancashire/Cheshire word for pitchfork - still used by many of the older generation. And that pub is going strong.

LG is a Chester reg and not Wigan.

Comment by: Roy on 16th October 2015 at 13:27

Garry, pay attention, questions will be asked later. Who said anything about it being Wigan registered ?

Comment by: Eddie on 16th October 2015 at 18:23

A bit pedantic, I know, but LG is the prefix for Cheshire, not Chester specifically.

Comment by: Alan on 17th October 2015 at 18:31

The reg is North wales MA, CA, DM, MB and LG.

Comment by: Eddie on 17th October 2015 at 19:57

Incorrect Alan, the prefix letters that were allocated to the county of Cheshire were as follows - TU, LG, MA and MB. AS far as I'm aware, and I'm open to correction on this point, the only letters specifically allocated to Chester were the letters FM. The letters CA. were allocated to Denbigh county, close to Cheshire I'll admit, although not actually in Cheshire and the letters DM. were allocated to Flint. Once again not in Cheshire I'm afraid.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 17th October 2015 at 20:06

These are the Chester reg letters: CA MB LG MA FM DM.

Comment by: Garry on 17th October 2015 at 20:29

Nothing to do with Cheshire.

Comment by: Eddie on 17th October 2015 at 22:24

Well?, Chester or North Wales ? Which one is it ? Give me a shout when you've made your minds up . The last time I consulted the map, Chester appeared to be in England. Regards. Eddie.

Check out UK Vehicle Registration Letters and Area Codes.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 18th October 2015 at 19:11

I stand corrected: Up to Aug 2001...CA Denbighshire..MB Cheshire..MA Cheshire..LG Cheshire..FM Chester.. DM Flint.

Comment by: Eddie on 18th October 2015 at 19:56

It appears I've been quoting from the pre 1974 tables. My apologies to all concerned. Regards. Eddie.

Comment by: Garry on 19th October 2015 at 18:50

I said LG was Chester, didn't I.

Hi Colin, the photograph shows the bus parked directly outside Chester Cathedral on Northgate Street, visited this area just a few weeks ago.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 21st October 2015 at 10:14

Hi Walt, has much changed round there since the early 1980s.

Comment by: walt (North Yorkshire) on 21st October 2015 at 11:12

Colin, no the city is very much the same actually apart from pedestrian area's - and - one way streets, its a beautiful city and no doubt. The buses have changed though - now they are operated by one or two of those big concerns. I have fond memories of all this area, I did parcel delivery around here and North Wales during the 1070s

Comment by: Garry on 21st October 2015 at 13:04

1070 that's a long time ago. Yes it's still the same, a Roman city.

Comment by: dennis smith on 28th October 2015 at 20:59

looking at the livery I would say it is a Chester City bus built on a Bristol chassis

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 29th October 2015 at 21:34

No Dennis Smith, look at Tom Sutch photo of the same bus at Pemberton, Wigan. Item number 26862. This will answer your question.

Comment by: joe platt on 31st December 2017 at 01:17

the bus in question is actually a dennis dominator if you go back a few frames you will notice that mr cherry of chester city transport was recieveing the bus from N/C
