When BR steam finished in 1968, what was the "Knock on" affect with the NCB. I believe thousands and thousands of steam engines were scraped in the 1960s.

Remember these well from my train spotting days down the "Nick" ( by the side of the Wallgate Station ). Accessed from Prescott Street if I remember well. Looking round there and a then the Wigan Cattle Market, again off Prescott a Street, was a great day out back then in the school holidays.

Alex, One of our nearby pits (either Chisnall Hall, or Welch Whittle)I believe, had a contract which disposed of its output to BR, and closed following the demise of steam traction on BR.
