No4 headgear on left and No3 windinghouse.
No3 was electrified in 1980 but it was always known as the "engine house"
Plank lane going into Talbot road which went into the new
land/sale all loads going by road were weighed in and out

winder; Have you any info re the winding engines at Bickershaw Colliery?
All the photo`s Terry Almond has posted are exterior views.
I`m informed, using Google, that No. 3 shaft had a twin-horizontal winding engine made by Walker Bros, Wigan in 1891 with 32 in. cylinders and 7 ft stroke.
I did have loads of info on the colliery in general, but I've not seen it for ages.
I'll have a root and post it if I find it.
There were some winding house photo's in a book called Mines and Miners in South Lancashire, I had it....once, but can't find it now.
