New place for Standish. Used to be at Market Place
Tony, don't you mean 'old'? the original 'old' Standish stop was in the Market Place right outside the Bus Offices. Must have got moved here when they did all the Market Place reconstruction

This was the only way to enter and leave the cab of a front engined bus! The last ex Wigan Corporation Greater Manchester PTE front engined Leyland Titans were withdrawn in late 1981. But in London, the famous Routemaster only slowly disappeared in the last decade. I remember witnessing a bus driver leaving the cab on a busy street in Birmingham in 1977, and was injured after falling out onto the bonnet a passing Austin 1800 car and thrown into the road.
