The year 1966 when the Wigan Observer went over to web offset printing. The paper won the Bronze Plaque, the premier award in the weekly newspaper section which attracted more than 250 entries. The front page was stripped of news and made into a giant Christmas card to all it's readers, a maximum exploitation of web offset possibilities for high-grade pictures and like this one, in impressively large sizes. (This was a broadsheet newspaper)
