Is this the one with the 'long seats' upstairs? It was used on the Norley (No9) run.

Jarvo. On the destination indicator, would the last stop for this bus, for passengers', be the King Billy? At each end of the bench seats, upper deck, wasn't there a metal knob? Not as comfortable as the two seaters, on each side of the bus.

Albert, as I remember the Platt Bridge terminus was where the road coming in from Abram met the road coming in from Bickershaw. I think there was garage on the apex of these two roads. When I worked in Warrington as a teenager, one very foggy November day the no. 60 Wigan-Warrington LUT service abandoned every one at this junction saying they weren't going any further. I got a Wigan Corporation bus into Wigan from there then another bus to Beech Hill. The fog was so bad the bus somehow got onto the Market Square from Market St but persisted in carrying on. Ribble and LUT went out of service at the very mention of fog but Wigan Corporation always carried on regardless.

DerekB, that sounds like the pea-souper in the mid 60's which meant I travelled about 15 miles, at night, from Warrington to Wigan, driving a mini with the driver's door slightly ajar all the way so that I could find my bearings by reference to the white lines in the middle of the road - as soon as these "disappeared", I quickly found myself on the opposite side of the road - the whole trip was a nightmare - it took forever.

James, your experience of the fog appears to be about ten years later than mine. On that day we were allowed to leave work in Warrington early because of the weather. I left about 3.30p.m. and got into our house in Beech Hill at about 9.30 p.m. We tend to forget that dense fogs were commonplace in the winters of 40/50 yrs. ago.
