Good photo - mis-spent some time and money in that amusement arcade and in Whelan's later Morrison's supermarket!

Morrisons Supermarket formerly Whelans and The Room at the Top club in the 1960's. Ribble transport had their offices in one of the buildings to the left. I don't remember the bus shelter being like that, this photo must be early 1980's when I wasn't in Wigan much.

disgusting that these beatiful buildings have been demolished and replaced with run of the mill concrete jungle will our councils never learn we will soon have no heritage left

Yep Kenee, Think you are right re the date. I'd guess it was taken 1982 to 1984.
Morrisons were apparently still trading in Ormerod's Buildings, but the buildings that were next to the Ribble offices (Fortune's wholesale confectioners etc) have been demolished.

what a lovely atmospheric pic, how I would love to go back in time and step into this picture with that i know now, i would change so many poor decisions ive made in life

alan lad, yest the chippy was the last building on the right though I think Whelan's? or somebody had taken it over as a sandwich bar by this photo was taken.
