I used to run through the Grimes arcade, and catch it outside the County.
Ron. I've got a model of a Wigan corporation bus, on it is No34. on the underside is Leyland PD1. Is this the manufacture's classification of this type of vehicle?
Wonderful photograph of a Wigan long gone and much missed. I can still feel the Woodbine smoke at the back of my throat coming from the top deck...

Thank you for that information Ernest. Very interesting write ups. I must have missed it. I was without a computer for a while, about that time. I recollect coming home from the Maypole Colliery, about 1950/51,and doing a stupid thing. On reaching my destination in Lower Ince, whilst the bus was still travelling towards the bus stop, I dropped off the platform, forgetting I had irons on my clogs. I started sliding so fast, I nearly overtook the bus. fortunately, I kept my balance until I stopped. Never did it again. Thank you once again.
