Don't know much about trains but this is taken from a collection of slides I got from a House Clearance There were hundreds of slides of trains and buses I'll be putting them on the site in the future, when I can determine which ones relate to the Wigan Area.

this picture of the class 87 is well after the 60's ron i'd say it was the early 80's myself ... the 8mile post worked round here a few times on sat nights but not for a while though

The line was electrified in/or around 1973-4.

Sorry Ron, the guys are right, the loco is a Class 87, a superb piece of kit but only built (at Crewe) between 1973–1975 so this has to be 1973 or after.
Brings back some great memories.
Bet nobody knows where the EIGHT miles on the post is measured from ?
