This photograph was found among my Father's belonging's after his death, and as my Great Grandfather, and Great Great Grandfather were Iron Puddlers,I can make an educated guess that this is where my Great Grandfather worked, They lived in the same area as this firm, and going by the "pig's" of Iron stacked in front of the men, it is certainly a Foundry.
My Great Grandfather was born in 1850, and also going by the slightly mirror effect of the photo itself,I would hazzard a guess that it was taken around 1890-1900's.

Wouldn't they have been amazed to know that other generations of Wiganers could see this photo all theses years on?! Thankyou for posting this.

Puddlers were the hardest worked of all the iron workers and their skills often went unrecognised. Thank you for posting.

None of these men were J Blackburne, he was my grandfather and was the photographer. He also lived in Scot Lane, not sure of the number, he was born in 1888 so photo must be later

Janice and Joan - Great photo, we have a similar type of photo / post card by the same photographer Mr Blackburne at the same address and the information you have provided here including birth date of Mr Blackburne, helps date our photo to c1914. Intend uploading our photo to WW. Thank you ladies.
