My mother and father, Jack and Phyllis Bowen, seen here as the new tenants of the old Crispin Arms, Birkett Bank in 1950. "Old Gower" or "Gowie" had been the previous landlord. It was an old pub that was only licensed to sell beer, no spirits.
Although it was very hard work my parents enjoyed their stay here and moved on in February 1956 when the re-building of the Crispin was nearly complete, to take over at the Wellfield Hotel, Beech Hill. They retired in 1974 after 24 years in the trade.
