Did you drive one of these types of engine Cullie?
Passing the site of Boars Head Junction railway station
How fantastic is this!!!!
Would the train crew at the front be in control of the second loco, or would it also have a driver?
These locos were fitted with through jumper cables(orange connections on the buffer beam)to allow two locos to be controlled by one driver. However by this late stage(1984)many did not work so I cannot be sure on this occasion.
i just wanted to be the first to say GRRRRRRRR
I have recently read somewhere, that these interconnects, in almost all other countries adhere to a common standard, at least within the country, though two or three such standards exist, so can vary between countries; but that in UK, a number of incompatible systems had been employed, so working out what could be interconnected could be quite difficult.
I had not heard this before: can one of our resident experts tell me if it was true or false?
"hear them"? im freaking deaf what a picture. 2 great beast on a railtour i live in scholes and to this day i can still hear them gggggrrrrrrrrrr monsters from hell
regarding which locos could be worked in pairs or even three
with only one driver, in the case of the class 40 there was a blue star symbol just above the buffer beam meaning that any loco with that symbol could be worked together.
Fantastic shot of two of English Electrics finest. I've got a photo of the same train taken just moments before as it passed through Whitley. Picture quality not that good unfortunately or I would have uploaded.
Walts vote ...grrrrrr.nice capture keep it on.
