1961: Relief Signalman Harold Murry doing my job. Wigan No.2 box.

Harold Murray was a signalman in Standish Junction for a few years before he got promotion to the position as a Relief Signalman.
The most interesting part of this picture is the three pieces of wood propped up against the desk!!! You've guessed it. It is the back rest for the signalman and I can honestly say I spent more of my time leaning against this piece of wood than signalling trains? during my 7 years in residence, mainly, because I had good box lads!!!!!

Your comment here Tony, prompts me to think you had John Wright as Box-Lad.

Yes! Peter,
John was the resident box lad when I came to Wigan No 2 in 1962, having been made redundant with Dougie Doughty in Ditton Junction No 1 box.

John was a very good box lad, as were all those that worked with me. Unfortunately, John had a very bad chest problem, which caused his demise only a few years later.
Hope your operation was a success.
