This series of pictures of Wigan Wallgate is simply superb. The photographs are works of art in their own right, in my humble opinion, particularly this one.
Peter your railway photos are absolute gems. They are a beautiful historical record of a time gone for ever.
I feel you should publish them into a book. I for one would be delighted to buy it!
There is a lot that would need a good dose of doctoring to be transferred to a book; any volunteers. Thank you for the comments.
I love this picture. A moment on a rainy night in Wigan caught forever. It reminds me of Brief Encounter, and I am told by a friend that the Refreshment Room at Wigan Wallgate Station in 1961 was almost a replica of the one in the film.
51 years and that skyline hasn't changed at all!
The apartment on the top right of Moot Hall is where my mams stepmother used to live..one day her cat fell off..and just got up to go back home.
Peter, another Gem.
Irene you probably already know the Brief Encounter (one of my fav films) was filmed at Carnforth Station.. the cafe in station has recently been refubished to be identical to the one in the film... a good day out..
