Hi Peter, the word "Fitted Freight" what's the meaning?

Comment by: micky east on 6th November 2012 at 17:18

fitted freight means its vacuum braked on all vehicles within that train from engine to brake van

The lamps on the front were placed in different order to tell what type of train it was, Ive forgotten most of them, but express trains had a lamp placed each side and local passenger trains one lamp on top, middle and left was a partially fitted train, middle and right was fully fitted, its been nearly 50 years since I worked them so the memory is not what it was, but someone will put me right if I have got it wrong.

Two people answered your question there Garry before I got on site. One lamp in centre and one on drivers side is Engine and Van (Guards Van), All passenger trains, freight trains carrying perishables, Royal trains i.e. Queen, Mail trains run as passenger trains with a lamp/light on each front side.

The engine is looking quite smart for a goods train.
