It's a North British class 22 (although they never carried this TOPS number) They were numbered D63xx and were delivered new from Glasgow to the Western Region of B.R.Some enthusiasts gave them the name -Baby Warships-They were diesel hydraulics like their cousins in the D800 number system (Warships) I saw a few of the latter at Standish on their delivery run-D834 Pathfinder being the first I encountered.

Does anyone have a photograph of a steam locomotive, named " The City of London"? When I transferred from the Wigan Borough Police, to the Kent Police, in 1964, It was this locomotive that transported my family, and myself to London. In about 1996, I saw the name plate, situated on a wall in the Museum,at York. Was 1964 the final year that steam trains were used for the transportation of passengers?

Thank you Owdbill, it was great to see her again. I also enjoyed Ron Fisher's favourites(sideshow). An amazing collection of locomotives, and omnibuses.

Albert - Steam locos continued being used until August 1968 - by that time they were just in the Lancashire area - each region around the country gradually phased them out. Shame because they looked and sounded so much better than these spamcans.
