These colour pictures, among the first to be published in this country, were taken by Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong. After a spell in quarantine, they were processed in the United States before being flown to England.
Neil Armstrong is out of this world now RIP. When I look up to the moon I will remember you.
I will never forget this incredible event, not just because of the magnitude of the achievement, which was truly monumental and something we all admired. But it was the fun we had with the original NAASA 6x6cm transparencies while they wer being colour separated by Harry Stopforth and Steve Hooley, I managed to convince a few people that, it really wasn't the moon, but that I had shot the pix on Ince Moss and it was all an elaborate hoax.
Of course after we had laughed bout it for a while I coughed up and acknowledged the tremendous achievement was real.
The Loss of Commander Armstrong is a sad day, not just for America, but for mankind, he fulfilled a lot of our ambitions: RIP
I was sixteen and had started work that week in a Chemists Shop after leaving school. It was closed on Wednesdays and I stayed up to watch the moon-landing on the Tuesday night. Of course our telly was only black-and-white. RIP Neil Armstrong.
David, There are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding pictures allegedly shot on the surface of the moon. You don't need to be an expert to be convinced that lots of the moon pics have been tampered with. . . the question is why ?
Well done David, the reproduction of photographs printed in the Wigan Observer by the web offset principle were absolutely breathtaking and unbelievable. The bigger picture on the right, taken at Tranquillity base on the moon, shows astronaut Edwin Buzz Aldrin standing beside the solar lunar module "Eagle", during his historic walk on the lunar surface. Apparently, (you may remember this David) one of the Observer's camera room staff described the lunar module as "like a tinker wagon with legs on". Highlight of the smaller picture (left) is the reflection in the face window of Aldrin's space helmet. Reflected is astronaut Neil Armstrong While he was taking the picture.
Thank you John for bringing up that, it's about time someone made a comment like that instead of believing everything we're told as though we know all the facts. There's lots of evidence to show something isn't right particularly with the photographs, lighting etc of the moon landings. All I can say is stop watching The X Faxtor or the soaps and taking in everything the mainstream news tells you & do some research and come to your own conclusions. RIP Neil Armstrong.
Wow, Allan! So something isnt right with the moon landing, lighting etc... And your wealth of knowledge on the subject is derived from what source exactly? But... we should definitely believe you, right??? hahahhaha! by the way, I bet you believe in all the conspiracy theories put forward over the last few years. Lets see, theres Kennedy, Lennon, 9/11, and what about Diana? That was a conspiracy also wasnt it? I shake my head...
Some 600 million people that's one-sixth of the world's population watched the moon landing in 1969. In America, it was 8.18pm on July 20, that Armstrong set foot on the moon.
But in Britain it was almost 3am on July 21. My dad and I was one of the 600 million people who watched it on TV.
About this silly conspiracy theorists who believed the Apollo 11 mission had been staged and that astronauts Neil Armstrong along with Buzz Aldrin never landed or walked on the moon. In an interview earlier this year Neil Armstrong said, it has never been a concern to me, because I know someone is going to fly back to the moon and see the American flag and pick up the camera I left there.
Armstrong defended his mission saying there was no way the 800,000 Nasa staff on the project could have kept a secret.
