He finally retired as a Detective Inspector, and died only a couple of years ago, in his nineties.

If my memory serves me correctly, Frank Sharples took charge of Wigan Borough Police C.I.D. as Det/Insp, from Bill Taylor, when Bill Taylor was Promoted to Ch/Insp, on the retirement of Ch/Insp John Duffy, about 1959/60.

Great picture of Frank and his wife Gladys. My mother ( Ethel Roberts - nee Mason ) went to school with Gladys and they were lifelong friends. Frank and Gladys attended Wigan Parish church for well over 60 years. and were a really nice couple. Frank was also a very strong and well respected Freemason in the Wigan and Livrtpool areas. On the death of Gladys , Frank went to live with his daughter Barbara in Southport before entering a retirement home.

My Grandad was a Bill/William Taylor, and served in both Wigan and Clitheroe (amongst other areas)
