Ron, that is a great photo..Wallgate was my comfort zone..I was brought up in Great George Street..My Mam used to take me to Cholertons nearly every year as I was growing up to have my photo taken...I only hope I was worth it...
pooles pies shop by the crossing,at one time best pies in Wigan. spoiled by a person changing the recipe of the pies.
Went passed the shop yesterday.. What an eyesore.
ron quite agree but so is the rest of the road from the clarence down
Saturday shopping in Wigan, down to Pooles pies in Wallgate, pie, peas, barm cakes and a sponge vanilla. I can still remember.
Pooles pies in Wallgate, mmmmmm, mmmmmm. I remember stopping off there many a time with my mum or gran when i was younger.
My mum Janet Bullock was one of the photographers at the Cholerton shop- being granddaughter of the owner. I cut my teeth on pools pies, and spent my toddlerhood in the back of the shop playing with the photo props. It was from the shop doorway i saw the Queen arrive in 1977 for her silver Jubilee tour. I was 7 years old
Just found my parents' wedding photo album. 6th June 1948 at St. Hilary's Wallasey.
