Have you noticed all the trucks are Dafs good choice I worked for 33 years for Daf in Eindhoven retiered at the age of 58 still live here best move I made moveing to Holland in 1971
We had a similar photo like this Wally taken at Ashton, from the newest Daf to the oldest...really smart looking fleet.
Colin, this also is early to later vehicles starting with the VERY FIRST DAF vehicle purchased, VDM475M, then UCA431R PMA87Y then into A regs - B regs you will have worked on some of these. VDM475M went to scrap sadly at the grand old age of 12yrs
Hi K Smith, this is just a few of the fleet operated by KwikSave, they had the largest fleet of DAFs in Europe, I drove the first one back in 1974. A 2200 artic, that's it on the left.
Well done K.Smith. you should be proud...your initials KS...fits the bill.
Whats the big tank anyone?
The big tank Bob was for water storeage, in event of fire, the depot was once aircraft production and so would have been a target during the war years. Look up Blackburn aircraft - and their plane called Fairy Swordfish or sometimes known as the string bag. When Kwiksave bought the site in 1983 it was too costly to demolish so they made a feature of it, sadly no more, it's gone now.
good photos walt.brings back good memories.i worked on pull then on intake for the rest of the time.remember you well.
And I remember you Bert as well, good to here from you. I remember Maurice and Ken as well, what about Barry K and Harry ofcourse. Well its suprising how many people you remember when you think back and, they generally have good memories, good on yer mate.
I'll echo Wally's Comments Bert, I knew all those chaps even though I wasn't part of the warehouse, we was one big happy family. By the way, Bert who?...I knew one or two at that time, intake you say...could you be Mr.Dukes?

It's nice to hear from you Bert, I know who you are now... I did'nt know your surname. Hope your well and enjoy the photos.
is the depot closed nowdays or is it still in use, and where is this site?
All depots have closed now, KwikSave i'm sorry to say is no more, I worked at three of them over my 25yrs with them, Ashton in Makerfield, Winsford ( for about a year) and Sherburn in Elmet Yorks. They also had depots in Wellingborough, Prestatyn (the very first) Tipton, Frogmore (nth London), Dunfirmline and Newport Sth Wales.... great company to work for.
I used to work here too, nice to see the pics..how ya doing Bert?..We should have another reunion, enjoyed the last one.
One of the trucks in the photo on its maiden voyage to
Sherburn it went down Golborne road and a knocking noise
,came on it the driver told the fitter it was the gearbox
the fitter told the driver to take it back to Ashton the
day after me and Colin took it out on test I went through
Ashton I wound the drivers window down I said to Colin I
know what it is there is something stuck in the O/S rear
wheels we went in a layby on east lancs rd I was Right it
was a square block off wood off a pallet we put a iron bar
between the wheels to get the wood out do you remember Colin
good old days eh D.C.
I've had that with a brick stuck between tyres.Shove a bar in to get it out. job done. I never thought it was gearbox though.
