Neat picture! My granddad Green gave my mother a piece of coal when she left for the U.S. in 1955 for luck. That piece of coal now rests in my secretary desk. I'm so glad she told us the story behind it - otherwise, we may have just pitched it out.
Coal influenced many of our lives, in one way or the other.
Thanks for sharing this photo.
would have thought Little Sids trophy would have been a shield covered with tallies of the men whose time he stopped trying to get up the pit early. would have had to be a big one though. asked me my number one time, gave him a false one, must have known mine off by heart, don,t know why he bothered asking. heard you not been too good Sid, get well soon. old times were good times.
good photo fred i also have the same item,it does indeed bring back memories,if you remember you were one of the first people i worked with at parkside on L 16s
Hi there Terry, how are you? Have you read the stuff that I wrote about Parkside? Look on the heading "Stuff" and you will find quite a few memories of the old pit.Are you still playing the organ?
