A good picture Colin, wonderful to see the Whelley line still in use, before the railway disappeared the undergrowth took over, and the cricket club extended over the shallow cutting. Just a tiny bit of that embankment behind the train now remains as a reminder of what once was!
i coped this photo out of a book. theres a few more id like to show but id end up getting into trouble with copyright so best leave it at that.
Is this not the Wigan avoiding line at spring View?
Dave, I don't think there would be a problem with copyright as long as you can credit the photographers. This photo is credited to Ian Isherwood taken on the 24th September, 1971.
I used to play cricket for Blackrod in the West Lancs League, have played a few times at this ground. The line of hills (slag heap) left background, is that Woodshaw Rook, other wise known as (Woochie Rook)
