Two photos taken from the overbridge by the signal box at crow nest junction,hindley.

The first photo was taken in August 1986 & shows LMS Jubilee class 5593 Kolhapur working the Lancashire Coast Express steam special.

The second photo was taken from the same vantage point in summer 2009 & shows a 2 car class 150 on an all stations to Manchester Victoria,Via atherton working.

A great picture Harry. What a wonderful location it must have been, when the Atherton line was still four track, and all the sidings were still intact.

Thanks Dave,Yes crow nest junction must have been a much busier place in its heyday,the signal box in these views is the modern BR LMR type 15 replacement box that was built on the old fast lines trackbed.
This 25 lever box replaced the old crow nest signal box & was commissioned in october 1972 (in connection with the opening of warrington powerbox.

I think that was the box my Uncle Jimmy (James Whittle) finished his railway career at, after working all his life as a signalman, mostly at Hindley No 2
