Senior OHL Inspector Lesley Eric Blake and Linesman/Erector class 2 John Winnard outside the main depot building at Springs Branch. What a character John was, his dad was a member of the platform staff at Wigan NW station.
Tom Denny the Chief OHL Inspector on the depot nicknamed him "Crazy Horse"; and what stories might be told of some of John's escapades were this not a family show so to speak! John did a fair amount of door work as it is now euphemistically termed, in and around the Hindley area. Not all his teeth were his own, and whether or not that was connected to his other vocational employment I couldn't say! A great character, I have many, many happy memories of the time I spent in John's company.September 1988
