Hilton House station and signal box
Hilton House station and signal box

A view of Hilton House signal box and station to complement the one of Harry’s on WW/work/railways/page 24 item No.15453.
By now the station is disused although the line remains open to traffic and the signal box too as a block point. View taken I would think not long after closure in 1954 and looking towards the A6 overbridge. My signalling mate Harry advises that the exchange of interest that is taking place is likely fresh drinking water containers for the box. This would be delivered on a daily basis, by the first convenient engine movement of the day which in this case happens to be a light engine. Harry also tells me that the signalman’s name is Jack Clark.

Good photo Dave,i do vaguely remember that calendar & the bolton evening news also featuring some of the locations on the calendar in the paper week by week in the mid 1980s.
I`ve sent you a modern day view of the same location from the same vantage point to your Email to compare & use if you want mate.
