The area under Wallgate bridge towards the Pier there used to be a community. Hard to believe when you look at the bland view these days.

He's parked right outside what was then my doctors..Dr Hall, who was a brilliant G.P.then there was Dr Rosser,he was lovely and a good'un,and yes Stuart it was a thriving community as the thread on w.w. verifies,it was a great environment for my childhood...but I'm bias,I suppose everybody thinks the same about their own area...happy days.

Dr Hall married my cousin, Anne, and was in the army during the war. He was well thought of in the Wallgate area along with Dr Rosser. I've heard him talk of many tales of life in Wallgate in the 1940's and 1950's - never any names but some wonderful stories of life as it was in that area.

Yes Peter, he was a great Doctor, and a lot of Wallgaters will never forget him,he worked tirelessly for all of his patients,a truly great G.P.

Wigan Metro have a lot to answer for in so-called "modernising" this area. I know many of the houses were in a very poor condition, but I reckon it would have been better to refurb them instead of destroying the wholesale character of the area. Perhaps its just me feeling nostalgic...?

Bill,I'm troubled with that illness....nostalgia,but there's no tablets for it is there?.

To some extent meeting up with people we knew from the past may help settle nostalgic feelings. We can then see how , not only have times changed...but so have we! It could help bring things into some sort of perspective.

Wigan Corporation 4, DEK106 was a 1957 Massey bodied rear entrance Leyland PD2 with platform doors. It was photographed in Wallgate passing a Liverpool registered Vauxhall Viva HA. 9549KF.
