An interesting view (now bricked–up) showing the former fish/parcels and mail tunnel connecting across all platforms. Those who can recall the old LNWR iron bridge will remember that it originally carried on all the way across the car park (through the middle of the multi-storey car park as it is now) to somewhere around this point. Allegedly this was to encourage people walking up King St. to detour left and leave King St. before reaching the top of the street and then passing the L & Y station further up Wallgate before they reached the LNWR station. They might then have been tempted to travel by the rival L & Y route to Manchester or Liverpool. June 1993
