The Market Square was usually the scene of a fair twice a year and Smith's Coaches on Saturdays and Sunday mornings all through the summer. The rest of the time it was usually a car park!!

in the background you can see the original J J Broughton sports shop the origin of JJB name

The original name of the sports shop was JJ Broughtons, it was just co-incidental that the late Johnny Bradburn, who was formerly a Teacher (or was it Headmaster) at Wigan Grammar School bought the business and moved it on from just being a Sports outlet. DW doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it ?

Leyland Titan PD2/1 These buses entered service in 1951 and had full bench seats. Not a particular good design.

To set the record straight. This is a Leyland Titan PD1 delivered new to Wigan Corporation in December 1946. This was one of a batch of 30 delivered after relaxation of wartime restrictions. Wigan's first PD2 did not arrive until February 1950 and their reg numbers were JP 8300 - 8329.
