Not sure if this is Alexandra Colliery in Whelley or Dairy Colliery in New Springs.
Comments welcome.
Dunno' about the Alex, but I believe the Dairy Pit was a wet pit, hence the wellies. My Bro' did a spell there after Johnpit closed
I think I would favour the Dairy Pit as the location as well.
The building in the background seems to be of a more modern design than would have been at the Alex.
Alex closed in 1955 and Dairy 1961/62
Is the inscription "DP" on the inverted fire extinguisher an indication of which pit?
The date on the extinguisher is '59 therefore after the Alex closed
Thanks for your comments does anyone have any names for me i think its Bob Rudd 3rd from right back row and cooper 1st from right back row so ive been told.
It is Walter Cooper 1st on the right back row his daughter confirmed it ,and it is Robert Rudd showed the photo to his son...
Looks like to afternoon shift going on. The man third from left back row, collar and tie, was his name Brian ???, does anyone remember him trying to pull a cat across the canal at Bridge Pit, he didnt win.
Is it Brian Gore ? Ken .
John Miller said it looked like him but not sure.
Front row 1st on right Hector Stott so i'm told.
Thanks dave, yes that right Brian Gore, he was very gullible
you could talk him into anything, did you hear about pulling the cat across the cut at Bridge Pit, or walking across the settling pool at the back of the baths at Alex.
If you would like to know let me know.
Ken
