prodesse is translated as "for the benefit of others " which was instilled into me by mr rodgers

Funny that translation by Mr Rodgers of "Prodesse" I'm sure Sol Healey, Latin Master 1n 1946 (my era) translated it for us as "Progress". And so it was at that time - an opportunity for the bright-poor to get a first-class education, equal to the best Public School standard.

I have never ceased to be grateful for the chance I had, which has served me well over the years, although I did not follow it through to university! And (you do not start a sentence with "and") I still regret that I was such a thorn in Sol Healey's side....I didn't see the point in Latin! I've recently had cause to regret it .... needed to read an old Deed - it was written in Latin and I could not make anything of it!

The building is still there - if only! We chucked the baby out with the bathwater!
