Some of the competitors in the mile race. Your's truly No 103, just in the photograph. ? Moss on my right shoulder. Jimmy Wilkinson, just in front on me. Who I believe got killed in a car crash a few years later, is No 712.
4 1/2 times round the Mesnes field is a long way if you have never run a mile before. I was more of a sprinter, but got roped into running the mile by, Gapes, House master. As my house, BRUNEL, was short of entrants for this event.

I was in Dalton.I hated football and cricket so Linacre let me run instead.Great school.

I remember doing athletics on the field with the long jump pits tucked away in the corner and Mr Gapes shouting his lungs out with encouragement or anger!!. Then we used to go down to Woodhouse stadium for athletics in the sixties and Christopher park (Standish lower ground) for cross country. If he was in a good mood oold Gapesy would give a few of us a lift down in his car, but if we didn't perform too well we had to catch the bus back !. Great days

Hi
This is John Greenwood - now living in Canada
Came to Canada in 1970.
