This is the Second Grammar School erected in 1723 at Cockerhams House and Croft in Millgate, the Rodney Street Site. Bought by the trustees 22 Jan 1723 from Alex Lee for £210. On 4th March, 1723 John Markland , Trustee and Alderman signed a contract with the trustees and with Masons William Wigan and William Latham of Wigan, Mason Henry Sephton of Rainford and Mason Robert Sayer of Haigh for the new building to be completed before Michaelmas of that year (1723)
