I well remember the tale of Little Red Hen from my primary school days....For anyone, if there is anyone, who isn't familiar with the story, she unsuccessfully attempts to recruit the animals in the farmyard to assist in procuring the ingredients to bake a cake. As often happens, everyone is too busy to assist, so unfortunately, the poor fowl is obliged to source the ingredients and bake the cake herself. Come the day of the party however, quelle surprise, everyone turns up to sample a slice of the cake. This was probably my first introduction to socialism at the age of five. And probably my introduction to the reason why socialism doesn't work. It's because the greed and selfishness within human human nature will not allow it to work. No apologies for saying what I think. It happens to me all the time.
