My grandfather EDWARD LAW was headmaaster of HAGS from 1882-1909. In 1882 the school was at its lowest ebb with few pupils, 2 classrooms (roof on far r.)and headmaster's house (r) where my father was born. Mr Law built up the school in size and reputation. Several extentions - part with big bay window in 1902, when headmaster's home was moved to next-door house Carlton Villas. Foundation stone of the large building on the corner was laid on 29 Sept.1909, 2 months before grandfather died of pneumonia; he continued working instead of going to bed!
