Apologies! It should be A.Gerhold and also D.Kyte. I do hope many of this team are still around to enjoy this photo!
Good to see my old friend from the early 1950's, Eric Long who lived in Manchester Road just on the Ince side of the Wigan boundary. Living I believe in Mexico City, which he visited for the World Cup in 1970 - A qualified accountant, he married a local girl over there. Should be comfortably retired by now. A big Man U fan from those early days.
Alan Hodgkinson was a very good fast bowler for Wigan Cricket Club in the 50s and 60s.
Did Fred Tabener play for Chorley?
I remember most of these guys on the team I played for the first team in 1954. My wife Margaret nee Holcroft was in the same class as David Beatties brother Martin. I also knew Martin and we would be most interested if Martin is still around and what and where he is living.
i know Fred Taberner played for Altrincham because i played against him for Earlestown in the qualifying round of the FA cup in 1963
Would like to say hello to Alan Hodgkinson, hope you are well
just like to know Margaret Marland if you were in lower 5C class with myself and Irene Flynn and know anything more about anyone in that class
Yes I was in 5c with you and Irene.I have lived in Scotland since 1959 so have lost touch with everyone. Would love to hear from old friends
A wonderful team made up of great lads, I felt privileged to know them. Of course Jack Lord, the P.T. teacher would bring the best out of anyone. They played Bishop Aukland after they won the F.A amateur cup, unfortunatel I have forgotteb the result
Alan is top left2, lots of memories of his football days, loved always .Anne
A memorable photo of the HAGS 1st XI from Ivor Hilton, ex Pepper Lane, Standish. I remember 7 or even 9 of the team signed for League Clubs on leaving School. Yes, they won every match that year. The last game was against the school staff. I remember my father at the school assembly before that match saying that the team had won every match so far, until this afternoon that is ! You can guess the result. I'm not sure about playing Bishop Auckland themselves. The connection was that Mr. Jack aka"Dad" Sharratt the maths teacher was brother to Harry Sharratt ( ex HAGS ) who was the Bishop Auckland ( and Olympic team ) goalkeeper. By coincidence I now live next door to Harry's widow. After winning the Amateur Cup at Wembley Jack borrowed their kit for the school staff to play in. Jack himself was goalkeeper for the staff and wore the green jersey. In Harry's obituary it tells the tale of winning one match easily when it snowed. He built a snowman in the middle of the goals and then leaned on a post for which he got booked -before yellow cards ! In another game he was reported to be winning 10 nil so he threw the ball in his own net 3 times to make a game of it. How times have changed.
