I left Rose Bridge in 78. I remember doing music with Mrs Barbour. I also know some of the girls in the picture they are my age. Its great to see pictures like this :) is she your mum ?

the lad above the teacher I think is one of smiths could be adrien ? he lived in our st levens place ince.

Yes she was my mum and passed away in January 23rd 1999.
A Great mum and sadly missed.

Is the girl sitting next to the teacher, wearing a striped top under her blouse, one of the Galvin family? There is certainly a family likeness.

john your mum use to teach me.she was the best teacher at rose bridge.very kind and understanding.

John you will have brought back many happy memories of the music classes with your Mum. I was a pupil at Rose Bridge and used to go to choir practices in the lunchtime in the early 60s I can see your mum now conducting "speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing over the sea to sky" she loved her music and was an inspiration to all her students.

Although I didn't attend Rose Bridge, I remember the song from my schooldays. My husband Peter and I visit our daughter on The Isle of Lewis each year, sailing from The Isle of Skye to Harris and driving up to Lewis. When we make the return journey on our way home, I am always reminded of my schooldays and the song "Over the sea to Skye".

i went to rose bridge from 1962 to 1967, Mrs Barbour was our music teacher, she would often put records on, i remember Anton Dvoraks war of the worlds, and The dream of Olwyn both i learned to love, i remember one year Mrs Barbour invited all our class to her house for a loverly bonfire night, she showed us round her house, i can still see the piano room, lovely memories of a lovely music teacher.

Kath, I like The War of the Worlds and The Dream of Olwen, (from the film "While I Live"), too. Your teacher sounds a special lady, instilling a love for music in her pupils and inviting you to her house in an age where teachers tended to stay "private". Do you recall where she lived? If only all teachers had been so "human".

i was very fond of mrs barbour i left school early 60s she was 1 of the best teachers in the school dont think anyone had a bad word to say about her she was a good teacher and she loved her family dearly she spoke about them a lot and of course horses she loved them they were good days x

She often spoke about her music class and how she enjoyed helping you all with your studies.The family still live in the old family home and my sister Christine near bye.Not heard before about the bonfire night sounds like great fun.Best wishes to you all...do come back with more memories..

MRS EILEEN BARBOUR 1913-1999 WAS MY MOTHER AND ALL THE FAMILY LIVED AT SICKLEFIELD HOUSE WIGAN. MY BROTHER GRAHAM,
STILL LIVES IN THE LOVELY OLD HOME AND I LIVE IN THE GARDEN (IN A HOUSE I HASTEN TO ADD). I REMEMBER VERY WELL, MY MOTHER BRINGing HER GROUP OF STUDENTS TO PICNICS IN THE WOOD AND ALSO THE OCCASIONAL BONFIRE NIGHT. SHE WAS A VERY KIND AND LOVING LADY, WHO WAS ALSO KNOWN FOR DRESSING IMMACULATELY. I REMEMBER HER BEING VERY PROUD OF HER STUDENTS AND WANTING TO INSPIRE THEM, TO GO ON AND 'DO WELL' IN LIFE. SHE BELIEVED IN HIGH STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOUR AND GOOD MANNERS AND ALWAYS WAS A ROLE MODEL. MY BIGGEST REGRET WAS, WHEN SHE PASSED AWAY,THAT I DID NOT WRITE A PIECE IN THE LOCAL PAPER. BUT AT THE TIME I WAS TOO DISTRESSED. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR KINDS REMARKS ABOUT MY MOTHER AND THIS IS WRITTEN THROUGH WATERY EYES.

We remember Eileen Barbour back in the 60s,we where taught that there where two sides to a story but she must have been taught that there was only one side to a story and that was her side.not nice at all .

This photo was taken between 1975 & 1980, guess 77-79ish. I recognise Carol Unsworth bottom right as you look at the photo. There's also Amanda & Catherine Sharrock stood at the back. I believe they left in 1979? I think the girl with the hooped polo neck is Janet Walsh?

mrs barbour was a great teacher to all her pupils. i loved her music lessons and was in the choir. i remember she took us to belgium in the 1960s had a great time.god bless her

I left rose bridge in 1982 , I know some of the pupils in the picture, Alison Smith behind Mrs Barbour, loved music lessons with her happy days .
