8 Maurice Edwards went on to become a professor of Mechanical Engineering in the US.
12 Jelly Jackson. 13 Kevin Harrison, his family had the chipshop at Goose Green crossing which was demolished to make way for the dual carriageway.Next to Kevin is Olaf Turton one time licensee of the Bay Horse in Ashton.

Thank you for correcting those names jcf. I'm afraid all this excellent coaching was wasted on me, I enjoyed it but my temperament and very short sightedness (any excuse) meant I wasn't cut out for the game, but I followed Lancashire's progress with eagerness, Cyril Washbrook, Brian Statham, John Ikin, Roy Tattersall etc.,

What a coincidence K Beckett. It seems that in this photo there are two Edwards, B Maurice and Christopher M ("Tubby"), who both went on to have distinguished academic careers. Tubby became a Professor of Mathematics at Oxford, a Don, no less. If I'm not mistaken B Maurice Edwards was also a fine footballer.

Apologies to K Beckett, I believe I've misunderstood you, the Edwards in this photo is CM Edwards, he along with most of the ones I've numbered were in my year at Wigan GS, looking at others I cannot "see" B Maurice Edwards (he was 1 or 2 years "above" us) who I mistakenly thought you'd identified, sorry.

Please remind me jcf, to keep off the wine before commenting on "ww". It was "Jelly" Jackson, not Morton - I'm thinking of Jelly Roll Morton, an unforgettable name from the jazz world.

Bill F, thanks very much for that interesting bit of info' - an accomplished pianist - the times I've dreamed that could have been me - not without the hard work involved - ah, there's the rub.

BillF is quite right,Jelly's party piece was "Nut Rocker" made famous in the 60's by B.Bumble and The Stingers; usually played in the pub after a training session.

Keith
Is the original a press cutting. If so may I borrow it to enhance the detail with Adobe Photoshop? Thanks.

K. Beckett, it is and I'll certainly send it on, no problem at all, just tell me where to. I only found it by accident last week.
