As part of the decimation of Scholes this emotional photo shows the old school on the corner of Scholefield Lane and Catherine St, which I, along with many hundreds of other children, attended being demolished with the new single storey school and new parish hall in the foreground. I often wonder how short sighted the officals were in those times when I am sure for a fraction of the money spent demolishing and building new the old school could have been modernised. Had it been it would still be standing today and be in a better state of repair. The decimation of Scholes as a community was a terrible thing to do, ruining hundreds of lives and the social fabric of the area.
